Three Reasons Your Car Pulls to One Side

A car pulling or drifting to one side is often a simple fix, but sometimes it points to a bigger problem. The most common causes are: low or uneven tyre pressure, brake drag on one side, or wheel alignment issues.

Do not ignore it. Pulling can mask other faults and affects your safety and tyre wear.

Low Tyre Pressure — the Most Common Cause

If one tyre is softer than the others, your car will pull toward the side with lower pressure. Check your tyre pressures when the car is cold — write down the recommended pressures from the fuel cap or door jamb.

If one tyre is consistently losing pressure, it may have a slow leak. We can repair punctures or replace the tyre if necessary.

Brake Drag or Bent Suspension Components

If you feel pull more when braking, a caliper might be sticking or a brake line might be corroded and restricting flow.

If the pull is there all the time, a bent suspension arm, worn ball joint, or worn steering component could be to blame. We will inspect the front end under the car to check.

Wheel Alignment and the Full Picture

Wheel alignment (tracking) affects how your car handles and how evenly your tyres wear. If alignment is out, your car will pull and your tyres will wear unevenly.
