What Makes Diesel Cars Different

Diesel cars have an extra system called a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) that captures soot from the exhaust. The system is clever but needs the right kind of driving to work properly.

Short journeys and low-speed driving block the DPF. Motorway driving and longer trips keep it clean. If you do lots of local driving, you will need more maintenance.

The DPF Warning Light — Do Not Ignore It

If your DPF light comes on, your filter is getting full. In many cases, a decent run on the motorway (20–30 minutes at steady speed) lets the engine temperature rise enough to burn off the soot.

If the light stays on, bring your car in. We can read the data to see if it needs a forced regeneration or cleaning. Ignoring it will eventually leave you with an expensive new filter.

AdBlue and Diesel Emissions

Modern diesel cars need AdBlue — a urea solution that reduces emissions. You top it up just like washer fluid, usually every 6,000–10,000 miles depending on driving.

We can refill your AdBlue when you visit, or show you where to top it up yourself. It is inexpensive to buy at supermarkets and filling stations.

Service Your Diesel Right

Diesel engines are robust, but they need the right oil and regular servicing. Use the correct spec oil and change it on time — it keeps injectors clean and reduces carbon build-up.
